Modern city on the top of a hill, Tarquinia has always had a great reputation among the twelve Etruscan cities.


To see: the old LUCUMONIA, dated back to 2000 years ago, was one of the most important Etruscan cities with its huge harbour activity. At the bottom of the medieval suburb, the Vitelleschi Palace shelters the National Museum of Tarquinia with the sarcophaguses of the richest Etruscan families. Together with Cerveteri, Veio and Vulci, Tarquinia is one of the most exciting places of the Etruscan civilization.

We suggest to see the MONSTERS of BOMARZO PARK which made BOMARZO popular around the world.

Dated back to the XVI century, it goes against the artistic rules of that period. With no doubt, this great artistic work affects particularly your imagination through the monstrous and macabre sculptures like the “Mascherone” (“The Great Mask”) and the “Orco” (“The Ogre”).

Botanical Garden “San Liberato” in Bracciano. Here it is possible to take a walk among 700 varieties of roses, camellias, hydrangeas and English rhododendrons, while great tulips lead us to the “magic wood”. (the garden is open till October, during the first and the latest Sunday for only one conducting tour at 16.30 o’clock – tel. 06 988384).

   
           
     

Botanical Moutan Centre in Vitorchiano near Viterbo. 150000 Chinese peonies, belonging to 600 natural hybrids, are here present. But the feather in s.o.’s cap of this garden is the Rochy collection consisting in 80 varieties that originally came from Tibet uplands where they live at 3-4000 m on sea level.These peonies have all shade of rose – from white to dark purple; can live for3-400 years and have magic poetry names has “Goddess of Moon”, “Secluded Concubine” or “Coffer of Eight Treasures”. Oasi di Porto in Fiumicino where people, on horse-wagons, visits this natural park around the TraianoLake, an old wet dock built from the roman emperor. Migrant birds are visiting the oasis all the time and 130 kinds of ducks, herons, coots, sea crows, sea cobs and sea swallows live normally at sea side. Hear we can find also a colony of fellow deer. (Opening time: from 10.00 am to sunset, from Thursday to Sunday until 31st of May).
